Dear APAN members and friends

We are in the midst of a very exciting time at APAN, having just returned from a very successful lobbying trip to Canberra, and preparing to host both a National Press Club event as well as our first AGM as part of the National Solidarity Gathering.

Report on Canberra visit
APAN joined with the Australian Jewish Democratic Society and their international guests Sahar Vardi and Micha Kurz for a three day lobbying trip in Canberra in August 2012.  With  our strength reflected in our diversity, we had 30 individual meetings with parliamentarians, as well as hosted an event with the Parliamentary Friends of Palestine which attracted 50 participants.  Read our full report.

APAN sponsored events

National Palestine Solidarity Weekend – Sept 21-23 in Adelaide.  We encourage all people concerned for Palestine to attend this weekend.  It will include the APAN AGM and a national strategy conversation hosted by APAN – as well as music, BDS Symposium and the Edward Said Memorial lecture – Please book in by 12 Sept!

Prof Ilan Pappe televised address at the National Press Club – 19 September in Canberra.  APAN has been pleased to facilitate this event and hopes to attract as many participants as possible.   The event will be broadcast live on ABC 24, and then available on podcast.

In Palestine? There are two groups seeking volunteers for a few months at a time – see the Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) – through World Council of Churches or  International Women’s Peace Service

Thinking ahead: UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 Nov). APAN is encouraging member groups to think about hosting an event on the 29 Nov – the official UN Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
