Questioned whether the Palestinian Authority had agreed to and scheduled an election.

There were some media reports that the Palestinian authority was going to agree to elections at the end of 2018. Are they scheduled, given we’re nearly at the end of 2018?

Whole interaction with Ms HK Yu (First Assistant Secretary, Middle East and Africa Division) during Senate Estimates (Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Legislation Committee, Foreign Affairs and Trade Portfolio).

Senator KITCHING: There were some media reports that the Palestinian authority was going to agree to elections at the end of 2018. Are they scheduled, given we’re nearly at the end of 2018?

CHAIR: They are in the 14th year of their four-year term, as I understand it.

Ms Yu : That has been said, and we are monitoring it.

Senator KITCHING: But no elections yet? So we’re looking at year 15 of a four-year term?

Ms Yu : We have not seen any announcement of the election.
