We are honored to present four distinguished speakers, each of whom have walked the walk when it comes to public health and advocacy for Gaza:

– Dr. Bushra Othman is a general surgeon who recently returned from a volunteer medical mission in central Gaza, where she worked at the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital and gained first-hand experience providing healthcare to patients in besieged Gaza.

– Dr. Sanjay Adusumilli is a general and colorectal surgeon who has also recently returned from Gaza, where he volunteered at Al-Aqsa Hospital. He is also a cofounder of the Global Medical Foundation Australia, a charity that raises funds and provides medical services to countries in need.

– Sheryn Omeri KC is a dual-qualified barrister, practising in Australia and the UK. She specialises in Public International Law, Employment Law (including discrimination and whistleblowing) and Administrative and Public Law (the law of challenging government decisions). In 2015, Sheryn worked in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, on its Mali team. Sheryn was involved in the historic case of Prosecutor v Al Faqi Al Mahdi which led to the first occasion in the history of the ICC that a defendant offered to plead guilty, in light of the comprehensive evidence presented against him. More recently, Sheryn was counsel on the Article 15 communication made on behalf of over 100 Australians, to the Prosecutor of the ICC concerning the alleged complicity of members of the Australian Parliament in genocide in Gaza. Sheryn is also instructed on behalf of pianist, Jayson Gillham who was cancelled by the Melbourne Symphany Orchestra after expressing support for Palestinian journalists killed in Gaza.

– Dr. Natalie Thurtle is an emergency physician and has worked intermittently with Medecins Sans Frontieres since 2008. She was the medical coordinator for MSF in Palestine 2020-2021 and again Nov-Dec 2023.

We hope you will join us in learning from these amazing humanitarians as they discuss the challenges they faced, the realities on the ground in Gaza, and their efforts advocating for peace in the region.
