Join Women In Black’s Anzac Day Eve vigil: Wednesday 24 April, in the hour before sunset. In partnership with Amnesty International ACT.
Meet 5pm on the roundabout outside the Australian War Memorial at the top of Anzac Parade. Wear black, bring signs.
Anzac Day, one of Australia’s most significant public holidays, calls us to be good global citizens, to remember the horrors of war and to commemorate those who opposed tyranny.
This Anzac Day Eve, Women In Black calls on the Australian Parliament to do all it can to end Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people: to stop arming Israel and to impose sanctions against Israel.
As the sun sets, this vigil echoes the Memorial’s setting-sun symbolism for peace and remembrance of lives lost.
Background:
‘Women in Black’ was a vigil started decades ago by Palestinian and Israeli women coming together to demand an end to the Israeli occupation.
The Women in Black vigil outside the Australian War Memorial began on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday 14 February, and has gathered weekly on Wednesdays since.
The Australian War Memorial is a teaching resource in the Australian school curriculum, aimed at teaching children about what it is to be a good global citizen.
