SUMMARY:TSS4P SA: Film Fundraiser and Mutual Aid Market for the Aida Youth Centre in Bethlehem\, Palestine
DESCRIPTION:In response to the genocide occurring in Gaza\, Teachers and School Staff for Palestine South Australia is organising a screening of The Palestine Exception documentary and a mutual aid market to raise funds for the Aida Youth Centre at the Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem\, Palestine. The proceeds from the screening will go directly towards the centre’s educational and psychosocial support programs\, including arts classes\, sports training and academic assistance. The proceeds from our inaugural film fundraiser + mutual aid also raised funds for the Aida Youth Centre\, and we are committed to support their work in the long-term. All the way until Palestine is free\, from the river to the sea. \nThe Palestine Exception (2025) is a documentary film directed by Jan Haaken and Jennifer Ruth that chronicles the widespread 2023–2024 U.S. university campus protests against Israel’s ongoing occupation and genocide of the Palestinian people\, and the systematic suppression of pro-Palestinian voices within higher education. The film features professors and students as they join calls for a ceasefire and divestment from companies that do business with Israel and face waves of crackdown from administrators\, the media\, the police and politicians. Scholars from diverse disciplines explain what is at stake in these protests and why so many young people identify with the Palestinian cause. \nThe documentary unfolds as a story of college campuses as sites of both rebellion and repression\, places where personal and collective histories converge in unexpected ways. \nOur Mutual Aid Market and Raffle \nBefore and after the screening\, browse our Mutual Aid Market stalls and Silent Auction. We will also hold a raffle on the night\, with a variety of prizes including artworks\, art packs\, book bundles\, and other special items. \nPlease get in touch with us via email teachers4palestine@proton.me or via Instagram.com/teachers4Palestine_SA

SUMMARY:Cairns\, ‘Life Support’ - Documentary and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Healthcare Workers for Palestine QLD and Australian Healthcare Alliance for Palestine (AHAP)\, ‘Life Support’ is a full-length documentary that captures the unique eye-witness testimonies of international doctors who have been to Gaza over the last two years. \nGiven the ban on international media\, the doctors become the eyes and ears of the world. Led by Dr Nick Maynard\, Dr Victoria Rose and Dr Tanya Haj Hassan\, the film is structured around their visceral\, first-hand footage from inside hospitals. As the doctors’ videos chronicle their experience working in extreme conditions\, footage shot for our film by local cameramen gives us access to everyday life in Gaza beyond the headlines. \nThis screening will be followed by a Q&A moderated by Dr Aidy Conner\, a Fellow of the Australian Colleague of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) working as a Rural Generalist and PCRF Australia Board Member. Of Palestinian and British heritage\, his grandparents were dispossessed and displaced in the 1948 Nakba. \nQ&A conversation featuring: \n\nWaddah Weld Ali: is a Palestinian-Australian civil and structural engineer\, human rights defender\, and environmental activist. He is prominently known for his grassroots activism in Australia centering on Palestinian human rights\, anti-war campaigns\, and local conservation efforts.\nDr Nada Abu Alrub: an Australian humanitarian doctor of Palestinian and Iranian heritage. Her work embodies the heart of medicine: humanity\, dignity and the courage to stand with those who need us most.\nPlus other guest\, to be announced.\n\nContent Warning: contains graphic and distressing scenes including images of severely injured children and starvation.

SUMMARY:Edward Said Memorial Lecture 2026: Nasser Mashni
DESCRIPTION:Since 2005\, the Australian Friends of Palestine Association (AFOPA) has hosted the Edward Said Memorial Lecture to honour the life and legacy of Edward Said: A Palestinian-American scholar\, cultural critic\, and advocate for justice and liberation. \nEach year\, the lecture brings courageous voices to Australian audiences. Past speakers have included Chris Hedges\, Francesca Albanese\, and Dr Ilan Pappe\, whose contributions have illuminated the struggle for Palestinian freedom. \nIn 2026\, we welcome Nasser Mashni\, President of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN)\, Palestinian-Australian activist\, and co-founder of Australians for Palestine. The son of a Palestinian refugee\, Nasser has dedicated himself to building Palestine solidarity in Australia and advocating for Palestinian rights. He also founded Olive Kids\, a charity supporting Palestinian children in Gaza. \nWe are now three years into Israel’s genocide in Gaza\, a period that has profoundly reshaped Palestine solidarity in Australia and around the world. Nasser will reflect on how far our movement has come\, what the past three years have revealed\, and where we must go from here. Drawing on Edward Said’s legacy\, Nasser will explore the power of collective action and the possibilities for a future grounded in justice. \nUnable to attend in person? You can join the lecture via livestream. A viewing link will be sent to online attendees before the event.
