SUMMARY:Palestine Solidarity Sukkot
DESCRIPTION:October 6-13 is the Jewish festival of Sukkot. During Sukkot\, Jewish people are reminded that our ancestors once wandered as freed slaves and refugees\, living in temporary shelters. We mark this by building sukkahs: roofless\, four-sided structures. To show that we have learned from the travails of the past\, Jewish tradition calls us to open our sukkahs to strangers in celebration of shelter\, food\, and connection. \nWe cannot celebrate while Israel inflicts genocide and famine on the people of Palestine. The only way to remain true to the tradition of Sukkot is to stand in solidarity with Palestinian\, First Peoples and allied communities in so-called Australia. This year\, our sukkah will be a space of resistance\, inter-community connection\, and commitment to never again for all peoples. \nWe are hosting a grassroots Palestine Solidarity Sukkot fundraiser on October 12 in an outdoor CBD location after the regular Sunday protest. \nPlease join us to: \n1. Fundraise for PARA (Palestine Australia Relief Action) and ActionAid’s Gaza Appeal. \n2. Engage in meaningful inter-community building based on a commitment to justice. \n3. Continue calling on the Australian government to take meaningful action—including sanctions—against the Israeli government. \n4. Experience Jewish tradition outside of the political ideology of Zionism. \nNote: this is a grassroots event\, organised by members of the Jewish community in Naarm who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people as they struggle against Israeli apartheid\, occupation and genocide. \nYou can contact us on Instagram: @palestinesolidaritysukkot

SUMMARY:Working bee: creating 280 Press Vests at Garage 35 Art Studio
DESCRIPTION:The values helping guide our art making process: truth-telling\, reverence\, creativity\, care and impact. This action welcomes everyone – from organisers to those who are looking for their first opportunity to take action. Arts activism is just one of many ways we can and should act. \nWHAT: we are making one Press vest for every journalist killed in Palestine. They are life-size and can be individually held. The back of each vest has one martyr’s name and photo. \nWHERE: vests are being made and stored at Garage 35 Art Studio – a non-profit cooperative in Noble Park on Boonwurrung Bunurong Country. \nWHY: this project is inspired by Paper Kites for Palestine and the Will of Palestinian Journalist\, Anas al-Sharif\, who was martyred by an Israeli airstrike in August 2025:\n“I entrust you with (Palestine’s) people\, with its wronged and innocent children who never had the time to dream or live in safety and peace…I urge you not to let chains silence you\, nor borders restrain you.” . Data including names and photos are being sourced from: shireen.ps/press \nWHO: the vests are being made by the community in Melbourne’s south-east. Open sessions are being promoted by Free Palestine Dandenong for anyone to help create the vests. This project has an emphasis on bringing in new people to the movement (i.e. artists\, folks in the south-east\, Journalism students / arts students etc.) through arts making. \nHOW: Art making sessions are being facilitated by an Arts Therapist\, Gen Townsend (she/her)\, to offer space for community to grieve\, act\, learn and share. There is a Whatsapp channel in the Free Palestine Dandenong community to discuss ideas and coordinate how the vests can have impact through public display and activation. This is an open group that anyone can join to collaboratively make decisions. \nJOIN PROJECT WHATSAPP: https://chat.whatsapp.com/HCcY9hIK2nl84iR8zxTdLe?mode=ems_copy_t

SUMMARY:Women’s Strike for Palestine – September 22
DESCRIPTION:On September 22 the day after the International Day of Peace\, we are organising a Women’s Strike for Palestine.\nWe welcome everyone to stand with us in this urgent call to action as we demand peace\, liberation\, and land back. \nBy striking the day after the International Day of Peace\, we make it clear: peace is not a slogan while bombs fall\, homes are destroyed\, and people live under siege. Peace cannot exist without justice\, without an end to occupation\, without land back. \nPalestinian women have always been at the heart of resistance. From the women’s committees of the First Intifada who organised mass boycotts and strikes\, to today’s mothers\, daughters\, queer and trans Palestinians keeping communities alive under genocide\, their struggle shows us that survival is resistance and resistance is life. \nWe stand in uncompromising solidarity with queer and trans people in Palestine\, and with queer\, trans\, two-spirited\, and sistergirl communities here on these stolen lands and across the world\, who resist colonialism\, heteropatriarchy\, pinkwashing and state violence in all its forms. You are part of our community\, we see you\, we honour you\, and we welcome you in our collective struggle. Our struggles are bound together\, and none of us are free until all of us are free \nAcross history\, women everywhere have withdrawn their labour to challenge exploitation\, violence\, and injustice: \n* In Nigeria (1929)\, tens of thousands of Igbo women rose up in the “Aba Women’s War\,” refusing colonial taxation and shutting down colonial offices through mass protest\, boycotts\, and strikes.\n* In Liberia (2003) women organised market shutdowns\, sit-ins\, and even a sex strike\, forcing an end to years of civil war and pushing warring parties to the peace table. \nWomen’s strikes are not only about workplaces\, they are about withdrawing care\, labour\, and consent from systems that depend on our survival while denying us dignity. \nThis September 22 at 12pm\, we strike for Palestine in Martin Place in Sydney (Gadigal). We strike for land back. We strike for liberation. We strike for peace rooted in justice. \nJoin us. Stand with us. Strike with us!

SUMMARY:Amnesty International Unimelb x Melbourne University Philosophy Society (MUPS) Film Screening "The Zone of Interest"
DESCRIPTION:This is a film screening audience Q+A of the “Zone of Interest” hosted by Amnesty International Unimelb on the University of Melbourne Parkville Campus. Arts West building (Now known as Mahmoud’s Hall)\, Level 3\, Room 353\, 6:15-8:15pm. A dark\, disturbing\, unnerving\, yet unflinchingly powerful film about one of the most evil\, inhumane and barbaric darkest chapters of human history over the last 100 years\, the Jewish Holocaust. But this interpretation of the history is unique and unlike any other prior depiction of the Holocaust. As the director (Jonathan Glazier\, who in his 2024 Oscar Awards ceremonial acceptance speech\, bravely called out Israel’s hijacking and smearing of the memory of the Jewish Holocaust and extermination of over 6 million jewish people during WW2. To justify the Palestinian Holocaust+occupation)\, mainly inspired by the idea of Banality of Evil theory developed by German-American historian and philosopher Hannah Arendt\, chooses to focus on the holocaust not through the lens of the oppressed jewish people\, but instead the lens of the evil Nazi oppressors themselves \nSpecifically centering around the warped perspective of the German family of Rudolf Hoss\, one of the Nazi commanders of one of the Jewish concentration camps in Auschwitz. Where they shamefully and sadistically lived in a home right next to one of the concentration camps. With jewish servants and slave workers treated as sub-human. Where for the whole 2 hours (105 minutes) you see nothing but the family home\, the family life and slowly deteroriating relationship dynamics\, everything but the concentration camp itself. But you still hear the screams\, the smoke\, shooting and burning of the jewish people. Which is a horrifying contrast of the ideallyic family life. Which shows the absolute evil barbarity and complicity that normal\, brainwashed human beings could live next door to such war crimes being commited. Which puts the viewer in a scary\, uncomfortable position of being put into a position. Where they feel like they are watching and they are complicit in this genocide and horror. Which shows that perhaps we are not so much different from the evil perpetratrors than as we may think \nWhen it is framed this way\, it is a powerful reminder of the inhumanity and dehumanisation humanity is capable of doing to one another. Making us question all the times we may have been complicit in much dramatically smaller\, yet similiar circumstances\, yet we may have said or did nothing. Which is so universal that can apply timelessly in so many situations today with countless human rights violations and war crimes being commited. Especially against the interlinked\, shared histories and present plight of the Palestinian people in the current\, ongoing genocide in Gaza\, as well as the West Bank. The silence and complicity of our governments and mainstream media institutions as well as almost all institutions on the genocide . But the silver lining and hope is that it will inspire everyone who watches afterwards to change the situation and their circumstances now. What are we all willing to do challenge the dark powers that allowed this to occur? What would we have done during the Holocaust? We are doing it now. \nCome along tonight after the Students Against War September 10 rally\, 12pm at South Lawn to demand the Australian Labour Government Sanction Israel. And for universities to cut all weapons ties to Israel. A One State Solution and the Right to Armed Resistance. And particpate in the timeless applications of the message of what this films shows with the original evil mother of all genocides. Out of personal curiosity to learn more about this subject. Or maybe even whatever shared personal\, racial and multi-cultural experiences and shared histories of genocide\, occupation\, oppression\, silence\, complicity\, and resistance. To break the cycle of the history of genocide that happened in the past\, and is still occuring today. And engage in important\, urgent conversations of critical thinking of how we can challenge our institions in whatever context or workplace we exist in society on how to cut ties to the genocial war crimes\, human rights violations and atrocities of today
