DESCRIPTION:University students and staff across Naarm\, invite you to the screening of The Encampments\, a film that offers an urgent\, intimate portrait of America’s student movement\, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their universities’ ties to the war on Gaza. Their actions sparked a nationwide and global uprising\, with encampments spreading across hundreds of campuses\, around the world. \nFeaturing activist Mahmoud Khalil\, alongside professors\, whistleblowers\, and organizers\, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe. \nThe screening will be followed by a Q&A session with students who were part of the encampments at their own universities in Naarm\, including those currently under threat of expulsion and other disciplinary measures. \nThe film commences at 6:30 PM SHARP so please arrive 15-20 mins prior to screening. General admission. \nQ&A session commences at 8:00 PM and concludes at 8:30 PM. \nTicket prices are Pay What You Can and are offered on a sliding scale from $10-$30 (plus booking fee). \nProceeds will be donated to mutual aid projects in the Occupied Palestinian Territories\,

DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the reading group is to develop interest\, knowledge\, understanding\, and expertise in the various and diverse political economy dilemmas and crises that relate to Palestine. The topics for the Reading Group also have broader relevance outside their strict application to Palestine\, and so we will read these themes by considering how they relate to\, and are situated within\, a broader global political economy. We explicitly push back against the fear of learning about and speaking on these urgent issues\, seek to engage with colleagues more deeply about what it is to teach\, research\, and exist in a time of genocide\, and build networks of workplace support to advance understanding on crucial areas that are currently lacking across tertiary institutions and broader society in general.
