DESCRIPTION:Live music night for Palestine\, raising funds for children’s education in Dheisheh Refugee Camp. \nAbout the Project \nThe Time That Remains began in 2024 when three creatives came together with an idea: to use music as a way to hold space\, build community\, and raise urgent funds for Palestinian families in the West Bank. Partnering with the non-profit Made in Palestine\, the night was born out of solidarity and community. \nWith backgrounds spanning event curation\, community organising\, humanitarian aid and music\, they brought the first night to life in Naarm in June 2024 — raising $3\,328+ in direct aid\, which was distributed on the ground by the Made in Palestine team. Ayham (pictured) is one of four children in the family we are supporting. His older brother\, now 14\, is at the prime age of children targeted by the Israeli military and detained under administrative detention. When the Made in Palestine team spoke with the children’s parents in late 2024\, they shared their deepest fear — that their children could be hurt\, detained\, or martyred. \nLike many families within the camp\, they are facing significant financial and lifestyle challenges exacerbated by the pressures of military occupation and limited access to basic resources. The family believes in education as a means of safety\, stability\, and hope. This initiative aims to ensure that the children can have continued access to education through 2025–26 — covering school fees\, supplies\, and essential needs. DESCRIPTION:Sunday 18th May – 1pm – King George Square\, Brisbane City \nMay 15th marks the Nakba\, or ‘Catastrophe’\, referring to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and the near-total destruction of Palestinian society in 1948. The Palestinian experience of dispossession and loss of a homeland is 77 years old this year. \nThe creation of the state of Israel on that day was a violent process that entailed the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland to establish a Jewish ethnostate\, as per the aspirations of the Zionist movement. \nBetween 1947-1949\, at least 750\,000 Palestinians were made refugees beyond the borders of their state. Zionist forces had taken more than 78% of historic Palestine\, ethnically cleansed and destroyed around 530 villages and cities\, and killed around15\,000 Palestinians in a series of mass atrocities\, including more than 70 massacres. \nIsrael is continuously escalating this oppression and dispossession of Palestinians via their active genocide today.\nOn this day we also acknowledge and reflect on the parallels with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and their history and experiences of colonisation. \nJoin us in commemorating this historic event and stand with us to protest Australia’s complicity in Israel’s active genocide of the Palestinian People.

Through visiting Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem\, Silwan and Nabi Samwil the film gives an account of life under Israeli occupation prior to Hamas’s jail breakout. \nIn 2024\, Dare to Struggle Films partnered with the Hebron Human Rights Defenders who throughout the year gathered footage of Palestinian life and of Israeli aggression against Palestinians. They also conducted interviews as a reflection of life for Palestinians after October 7th. \nThe film also looks at Australia’s complicity with Israel\, particularly through Australia’s commitment to reinvigorating its manufacturing base by integrating into the US military supply chain. It also touches on mainstream media and how the Zionist lobby has managed to control the information that is presented via these channels. DESCRIPTION:To mark Nakba Day\, protest the Israel’s genocide and ongoing occupation of Palestinian lands\, and celebrate the sumud of the long Palestinian resistance\, Wooditjup (Margaret River) locals will gather to raise Palestinian flags and chant their way through the centre of town. \nThis will be the 65th week running that Celebrate Palestine South West have called a similar action (usually on a Wednesday afternoon). \nThe regional group seeks to: bring together likeminded witnesses to daily horrors Israel inflicts on the residents of Gaza and the West Bank; keep Palestine at the front of people’s minds by maintaining a visible presence; learn and educate each other and the broader community about Palestinian history\, art and culture; and create pathways for activists and advocates to contribute to the broader struggle. \nAll ethnic and religious backgrounds and nationalities welcome. \n(byo keffiyeh)

Join us for an immersive session where you can enhance your skills in Palestinian embroidery\, discover new techniques\, and connect with fellow craft enthusiasts! This workshop is designed for everyone—whether you attended a previous session\, are an experienced Tatreez lover\, or are completely new to the craft. \nTatreez\, Palestinian embroidery\, is a powerful symbol of resilience and cultural identity\, with designs that represent the diverse regions\, traditions\, and stories of Palestine. In this workshop\, you will hear from Samar Abedrabo\, the founder of SAMARKAND\, who will share her knowledge about the cultural importance behind the unique Tatreez designs. Samar\, based in Bethlehem\, will join the session virtually\, with hands-on support provided by the Made in Palestine and Stitch Intifada teams. \nThroughout the session\, you’ll be introduced to the materials used in Palestinian embroidery. You’ll learn about their distinct characteristics and how each piece contributes to the intricate Tatreez designs. From choosing the right threads and fabrics to understanding the various needle types\, you’ll gain a solid foundation in embroidery techniques. By the end of the workshop\, you’ll leave with a completed piece of your own embroidery and a newfound appreciation for this cultural art form.
