In this workshop\, you will hear from Samar Abedrabo\, the founder of SAMARKAND\, who will share her knowledge about the cultural importance behind the unique Tatreez designs. SUMMARY:Communities United Against Racism
DESCRIPTION:April 6\, 2pm\nPaul Keating Park\, Bankstown\, Sydney \nRacism against Muslims\, Arabs and Palestinians is being stoked by our elected leaders and elite institutions. Muslims have been violently assaulted in Bankstown and in Melbourne. Muslim school buses have been torched and staff at mosques have been harassed. Palestine advocates have had bombs placed on their cars and have been assaulted.\nThe Islamophobia Register has recorded over 1\,111 cases of anti-Muslim racism since Israel’s genocide on Palestine began in October 2023. The rate is seven times higher than prior to the genocide. \nThese racist attacks are being fuelled by the anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian policies of mainstream politicians. Israel has murdered at least 70\,000 Palestinians\, with some estimates at over 300\,000. Israeli PM Netanyahu and former defence minister Gallant are facing arrest warrants for war crimes. In response\, the Albanese Labor government reiterates Israel’s right to self-defence and demonises the Palestinian resistance. Albanese refused to condemn Trump’s ethnic cleansing plan and has not issued any sanctions on Israeli leaders or ended weapons trade.\nAll of this normalises the killing of Palestinians. It also dehumanises Muslims\, Arabs and Palestinians here in this country. Meanwhile\, people who have spoken out about the Israeli genocide have faced silencing\, censorship\, discipline\, loss of jobs and funding. The list includes Antoinette Lattouf\, Sara Saleh\, Randa-Abdel Fattah\, Peter Lalor and Khaled Sabsabi. Teachers and school staff such as Wasim El-Haj and Sheikh Wesam Charkawi have also faced repression. But we are fighting back in schools and through our unions. Sheikh Wesam was reinstated after strong community protests. \nAlbanese has falsely blamed the Palestine movement for the series of antisemitic attacks over the summer\, even though the security agencies confirmed it has nothing to do with the Palestine solidarity movement. The Palestine movement has been demonised by Albanese\, Peter Dutton and other Zionists. Albanese singled out the slogan “from the river to the sea\, Palestine will be free”\, claiming that the words are ‘extremely violent’. These smears tap into the racist legacy of the War on Terror\, associating Muslims with terrorism\, which has fuelled Islamophobia for over twenty years. \nMeanwhile\, both Albanese and Dutton have downplayed\, or even dismissed completely\, anti-Muslim attacks. They have been slow to condemn them\, if at all.\nOn top of this\, the Albanese government and the NSW Labor government are implementing new ‘hate speech’ laws that aim to severely restrict our right to protest the Israeli genocide. The NSW laws will ban protests near religious institutions\, with up to two years jail time as penalty. \nAll of this has contributed to an atmosphere where racists feel emboldened to attack. We need to stand united against the racism of the government\, media and institutions which are fuelling the racist attacks. Teachers for Palestine and a broad coalition of community groups invite you to join us to stand against racism. SUMMARY:Film Screening: Palestinians Don’t Need Sidewalks
DESCRIPTION:“Dare to Struggles” latest film\, takes us on a journey through the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem that\, through Palestinian eyes\, profiles life living under Israeli occupation. Much of the film follows a Jewish University professor\, an ex-politician and a Palestinian Australian student activist who were investigating Israel’s settler colonial apartheid society. Through visiting Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem\, Silwan and Nabi Samwil the film gives an account of life under Israeli occupation prior to Hamas’s jail breakout. \nIn 2024 “Dare to Struggle” partnered with the “Hebron Human Rights Defenders” who throughout the year gathered footage of Palestinian life and of Israeli aggression against Palestinians. They also conducted interviews as a reflection of life for Palestinians after October 7th. \nThe film also looks at Australia’s complicity with Israel\, particularly through Australia’s commitment to reinvigorating its manufacturing base by integrating into the US military supply chain. DESCRIPTION:This conference seeks to explore a wealth of issues related Business and Economic Development\, contributions should therefore be of interest to scholars\, practitioners and researchers in management in both developed and developing countries targeting a worldwide readership. \nEver since the publication of the BRIC (Brazil\, Russia\, India and China) report by Goldman Sachs in 2001\, the debate about the role of so-called developing emerging countries versus the supposed developed countries in shaping global business has gathered momentum. A revised version of the same report entitled BRICs and Beyond by the same authors\, with upward revision of certain growth projections\, has added further fuel to the debate so much so that by now\, most countries have accepted that the world economy is in transition. A second wave of nations\, the MINTs (Mexico\, Indonesia\, Nigeria and Turkey) have also been mooted as ones to watch\, whilst the ramifications of the global financial crisis of 2008 has caused many of the established economic orthodoxies to be both questioned and challenged. In addition geo-political considerations combined with anxieties over energy\, water and fuel security have raised serious questions about policy\, future strategy and the merits and demerits of globalization. \nIt is entirely understandable that such a changing economic dynamic calls for fresh thinking towards the formulation of policies examining macroeconomic stability as well as framing of strategies by firms irrespective of their sizes. Multinationals and SMEs\, all will be involved in formulating strategies in order to survive\, compete and grow. There is intense pressure on both governments and businesses to perform and deliver. In such a scenario\, alternative and maybe radical policies and strategies will need to be thought out and placed before the decision making bodies. New technology\, changing demographics and the need to meet the demands of diverse stakeholders ensures that for policy makers and practitioners alike these are indeed challenging times.  \nWe all need to be receptive to new ideas. Sadly in some respects many of us have allowed ourselves to become ideologically/intellectually cocooned\, so much so that some of us have yet to comprehend how the likes of the Brexit result and similar momentous events came about. This conference is an important opportunity to broaden our horizons.
