Palestine in Australian politics 2017

Posted on January 1, 2018 by apanaustralia

Collection of statements on Palestine and Israel from the Hansard record of the Australian Federal Parliament.

7 December, 2017, Senate, Question Time.  Senator Di Natale (Greens, Vic) asked a question of the Minister Representing the Foreign Minister
Minister, today we woke to confirmation that Donald Trump has announced that the US will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This is a body blow for the peace process and for the Palestinian people. It’s deeply unfair and dangerous. It’s been universally condemned by everyone except for the far right in the United States, a few loose cannons to my left and, of course, Israel. APAN Values

Australian Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN) acknowledges that we live and work on unceded Aboriginal lands. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging and acknowledge their role as custodians of these lands. We acknowledge the dispossession and on-going harm done to Aboriginal peoples by colonisation and we are inspired by their fight for recognition, rights, culture and self-determination. We pledge to support their work for justice, as we work for justice for Palestinian people.

APAN is actively opposed to all forms of racism and discrimination including antisemitism and Islamophobia. APAN is committed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to the application and implementation of international law. We seek to work with all our partners to ensure our work is supporting freedom of all. APAN advocates for peace and justice in historic Palestine (Israel/Palestine) based on UN resolutions and international law that includes the right to self-determination for Palestinians.
