Bob Katter MP – alleging that Australian Government aid funding supports terrorists and calling for the revocation of Australian citizenship for Hamas supporters

October 18, 2023

A high level of concern exists that the annual funding to the Palestinians and new initial emergency aid money of $10 million from taxpayers being provided to aid civilians in Gaza are being directly and incorrectly used to support terrorists in committing acts of terrorism.

Mr KATTER (Kennedy) (20:00): I’d like to read something into the Hansard, and one of my very good friends and a very great Australian family helped me with this. I don’t want to mention their names without their permission: ‘Notice of motion: that so much of the standing and sessional orders be suspended that would prevent the member for Kennedy from moving the following motion: that while the Prime Minister has condemned the attacks on Israel by Hamas, a high-level of concern exists that the annual funding—

The DEPUTY SPEAKER ( Ms Vamvakinou ): Order! Member for Kennedy, my understanding is that you cannot move a suspension motion—only a minister.

Mr KATTER: Sorry, that’s out of order. I’m not moving it; I said I would read out what I will be moving. So I would ask, please, not to be interrupted and that you make sure you get your facts right before you pull me up.

The DEPUTY SPEAKER: Do not reflect on the Speaker!

Mr KATTER: No, I’m not reflecting on you, I’m reflecting on—

The DEPUTY SPEAKER: Do not reflect on the Speaker, member for Kennedy—

Mr KATTER: Can I go on?

The DEPUTY SPEAKER: The member for Kennedy will wait until I give him the call. The member for Kennedy can read his blurb, but he cannot move it. The member for Kennedy in continuation.

Mr KATTER: ‘A high level of concern exists that the annual funding to the Palestinians and new initial emergency aid money of $10 million from taxpayers being provided to aid civilians in Gaza are being directly and incorrectly used to support terrorists in committing acts of terrorism. This directly or indirectly funds the ‘pay to slay’ pension-for-life program, which rewards the families of those who are considered to be martyrs for killing Jewish people. The more Jews killed, the more they get paid for life as part of the official budget of the Palestinian Authority.’ If any of these facts are wrong, I hope someone will correct me. They come from very reputable sources. It was reported yesterday that all internationally funded humanitarian aid in Gaza had been stolen by Hamas for the use of terrorists and not for civilians.

The motion goes on: ‘Calls on the Prime Minister to immediately cease providing aid money to any Palestinian authorities or to civilians in Gaza until it can be unequivocally proven that such money is not being used for the purposes described above and until it can be verified and guaranteed that aid funds allocated for Gaza are not being stolen and misappropriated. We ask that these funds be rightly redirected to support our valued ally Israel during their time of need.’

The motion continues: ‘Calls upon the Minister for Immigration to take immediate action to revoke the visas of all supporters of designated terrorist organisations, including, but not limited to, Hamas and Hezbollah, and to revoke Australian citizenship for those who possess dual citizenship.’ These people who publicly proclaim support for terror organisations should be deported from our country. It continues: ‘Calls upon the Minister for Immigration to comprehensively enhance the criteria for granting visas to Australia, and Australian citizenship, to prevent individuals who support terrorism from obtaining access to this country.’

I’ll continue with what I’m saying here. In the Sikh community, 23,000 of them were murdered in one year. They have the Hindus on one side and the Muslims on the other. Not that this is very relevant, but their religion says you’re to be humble, you’re to love your neighbour and you’re to do good to other people and make the world a better place—exactly the same as Christianity. For this, 23,000 were murdered in one year. If we’re going to bring people into Australia, surely you bring in the persecuted minority groups, not the persecutors. In this case of Israel, I cannot believe how anyone can be defending Hamas and the Gaza people. It’s just extraordinary to me. These people invaded another country, murdered babies, cut their throats, put it on television and put it out there in the media as much as they possibly could. They raped little girls and put on the media. What are these people?

That anyone in this place would defend their conduct and defend the invasion of another country—if you go invading other countries, you start wars. We should never be a party to people invading another country. Russia has invaded the Ukraine. These people lost between five and eight million people, murdered during the Second World War. (Time expired)
