The international community has an obligation to act to hold Israel to account. Whilst humanitarian aid is crucial, it only treats the symptoms, not the root cause. Advocacy, lobbying and campaigning led by Palestinians in Australia towards self-determination and autonomy is urgent now more than ever.
Successive Australian governments have had longstanding bipartisanship on Israel, sanctioning the apartheid state's war crimes and racist policies of segregation, dispossession and exclusion of Palestinian people across all of occupied Palestine. Israel's continuing genocidal war on the people of Gaza has shocked the world's people into taking to the streets in unprecedented numbers to demand a ceasefire, an end to the military occupation and lethal siege of Gaza. It is vital that efforts to advocate, lobby and educate are sustained and that the momentum of this mass mobilisation and global solidarity continues until Palestine is free - from the river to the sea.
