Our purpose
We facilitate a strong, strategic and sustainable movement that advocates and takes action for Palestine until liberation and self-determination are realised.
Formed in May 2011, we provide a national voice for the many thousands of people concerned about Israel’s continuing genocide, occupation and apartheid against Palestinians.
Our work
We work in the community, in parliament and with the media, delivering a range of activities and campaigns that seek to influence Australia’s public policy in regard to Palestine.

Our members
Our work connects with a diversity of members and people around the country to educate and to push for change. Our organisational members include grassroots organisers, human rights groups, Jewish and Palestinian community groups, aid and development agencies, and unions. While our individual members have many different backgrounds including religious leaders, academics, lawyers, former politicians, diplomats and public servants, and many others.
We live and work on unceded Aboriginal Lands
We recognise that we live and work on unceded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands. We acknowledge Elders past and present and their role as custodians of these lands. We acknowledge the dispossession and ongoing harm done to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by colonisation, and we are inspired by their fight for recognition, rights, culture and self-determination. We pledge to support their work.

Wendy Turner
Wendy’s journey with APAN began in 2011, following her active participation in a Canberra conference that brought together Palestinian, humanitarian, church, community groups and individuals from across Australia. A major outcome was the formation of a peak national advocacy body for Palestine. As a founding member, Wendy was elected APAN’s inaugural Secretary and remained an active member of the Executive from 2011 to 2021.
A committed unionist, political activist and advocate for social justice and human rights, Wendy drew upon her extensive union, political, community, and Labor movement networks to help build APAN’s membership, influence and national profile. She opened doors in Parliament and strengthened APAN through the recruitment and engagement of unions, advocacy groups and politicians.
Having witnessed conditions in Gaza and the West Bank firsthand, Wendy remains committed and active for Palestinian freedom with justice, equality and peace. In recognition of her contribution, Wendy received APAN’s 2025 Jerusalem Peace Prize.
Bishop George Browning
George became APAN president in 2012 and continued until 2022. When he began, APAN was quite fragile, depending upon the generosity of a single supporter. He presided over a growing membership base together with an expanding resource base which enabled APAN to become the acknowledged voice for Palestinians in Australia. Through his strong links with Canberra, he was able to position APAN with a strong presence in the national parliament. He has enjoyed links with Palestine and Palestinians since the 1980’s with frequent visits to the West Bank and East Jerusalem, especially as an ambassador and advocate for Palestinian Christians. From his Christian faith, he is driven by a strong desire for peace through justice, and a yearning to correct the false Zionist narrative of Jewish rights that extinguish rights of the indigenous Palestinian people. Through his writing he continues to be a strong advocate for peace through justice and equity.
Retired Major General Ian Gordon AO
General Gordon worked for over 30 years in the Australian Army, rising to Deputy
Chief of Army. General Gordon’s final posting was as Chief of Staff of the United
Nations Truce Supervision Organisation where he witnessed first-hand the realities of the Middle East.
