Sanction Israel Now

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and Australia is failing to act.

International law is clear: Australia must prevent and punish genocide.

Yet Australia continues to supply weapons parts, fuel, military-intelligence support, and maintains trade agreements and diplomatic relationships with Israel.

This directly violates Australia’s obligations under international law.

For almost three years, Palestinians in Gaza have endured mass killing, displacement, starvation and the destruction of homes, hospitals and essential infrastructure. Across the occupied West Bank, violence and illegal settlement expansion continue unchecked.

When more than 400 international activists, including eleven Australians, joined the Global Sumud Flotilla to challenge Israel’s illegal blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, many returned with disturbing testimonies of violence and abuse.

This violence was enabled because of the failure of the Australian government to act and hold Israel to account for its years of impunity.

Australian activist Violet Coco said: “Those monsters took pleasure in beating me, in sexually assaulting me and my friends… they do much worse to Palestinian prisoners.”

Isla Lamont described: “We were taken to this makeshift prison cargo ship. That’s where the violence really began… Some came out unable to walk with broken bones, welts from being beaten by guns.”

Gemma O’Toole said: “People were shot with rubber bullets, people were shot with water cannons, people were beaten profusely.”

Zack Schofield recalled: “I saw an Israeli soldier point out a man who appeared Arab… we could hear his screams.”

The treatment of flotilla participants offers a glimpse into the violence and torture Palestinians have endured for decades.

Yet Australia continues to maintain military, economic and diplomatic ties with Israel.

Australia has imposed more than 1,400 sanctions on Russia for violations of international law. It is time to end the double standard.

Write to your MP today and demand Australia sanction those responsible for war crimes and illegal settlements, end military ties and stop Australia’s complicity.

Take action now.

What are we asking the Australian government to do?

We are asking the Australian government to implement the following policy measures in line with our obligations under international law:

1) Broad and extensive sanctions

  • Targeted sanctions on Israeli government officials, military leaders, individuals and institutions involved in and responsible for Israel’s genocide, illegal occupation and settlement regime and it's apartheid regime.
  • Expand sanctions to include entities, companies and organisations facilitating illegal settlements and serious human rights abuses.

2) An end to diplomatic support

  • Cut off economic, industry, trade, diplomatic and military relationships. End all bilateral cooperation schemes, cross-border investments and cultural programs between Australia and Israel.
  • Expel the Israeli Ambassador to Australia and recall Australia's Ambassador to Israel until serious violations of international law and abuses against Australian citizens and Palestinians are addressed

3) Cut off the weapons

  • Suspend all arms agreements, cooperation and arms deals with Israel, including the export, import and transfer of arms, parts, components and dual use items used by Israel in its assaults on the Palestinian people. This includes any deals or trade with third countries or companies where Israel is the end user.

4) Stop Australian money from funding the occupation

  • Prohibit investment from Australian institutions (like superannuation funds, universities or banks) in companies complicit with Israel's occupation and genocide.
  • Cancel the DGR status of any Australian charities that contribute to, support or benefit from Israel’s illegal settlements.

5) Use international law to hold Israel to account

  • Proactively support investigations into Israeli war crimes and cooperate with the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court.
  • Uphold Australia's obligations under the Genocide Convention, the Geneva Convention and the Arms Trade Treaty.
  • Investigate Australian citizens who have served with the IDF where there are credible allegations of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide .

6) Respect Palestinian rights

  • Recognise the rights of Palestinian people to self-determination.
