A brief history
EJ4P began as a small group of locals concerned about Israel’s assaults on Gaza in retaliation for the Hamas attack on 7th October 2023. In early 2025 we named ourselves and set up a group email address. We joined APAN as the national group most reflecting our aims. By then it was clear that the situation in Gaza was spiralling down, and world leaders were doing little to stop the conflict, so we would need to continue for longer than we had initially imagined.
So far we’ve:
- Held two public meetings, with talks by retired Bishop George Browning, formerly chair of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN);
- Screened two films – ‘I Remember 1948’, eyewitness accounts of ‘Al Nakba’, Israel’s forced removal of over 750,000 Palestinians from their homes, and ‘No Other Land’, the Oscar-winning documentary about Israel’s attacks on West Bank villages;
- Toured Palestinian writer, Samah Sabawi to Moruya, Bermagui and Bega;
- Developed a petition and registered it with the Federal Parliament – we have collected 2,200 signatures;
- Produced postcards to local federal MPs for supporters to sign and add comments; – we have delivered 1674 postcards to the offices of Fiona Phillips and Kristy McBain;
- Produced a banner promoting aid to The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA);
- Written a leaflet that includes a short history of the conflict and sets out our demands;
- Held stalls to collect signatures, distribute leaflets and raise money for UNRWA – so far we have raised $9,045 for UNRWA. We cover any ongoing costs ourselves;
- Created a mailing list(to date approx 100 members);
- Publicised events via the Moruya Mail and local ABC radio;
- Participated in Nationwide Actions called by Palestine Action.
- Organised the Moruya Bridge march of 350 people on August 24th to demand sanctions on Israel and an end to the bombing and starvation – possibly the largest demonstration in Moruya’s history.
- Combined with Palestine Action Bega Valley for 3 rallies in October, November and December 26
